Record crowds flood US airports as holiday travel hits all-time peak
TSA screened over 3 million travelers in one day during this years Thanksgiving rush - a number never seen before. Airlines managed huge passenger loads with minimal issues despite air-traffic challenges
The Transportation Security Administration hit a mind-blowing milestone this thanksgiving season‚ when they screened more than 3 million flyers in just one day (which hasnt happened but once before in history)
During the turkey-day travel rush American Airlines handled about 58k flights with only 95 cancellations; while the Federal Aviation Administration managed over 232k flights in the holiday week - the most ever for this time period. The FAA reported super-low numbers for problems: just 0.3% flights got cancelled and only 1.2% had delays
Airlines expected way more holiday travelers this season than last year:
- 31 million passengers projected for current season
- Up from 29 million during last years holiday
- Over 18 million screenings planned for the whole week
The air-traffic system worked pretty well despite some issues at Newark Airport where United Airlines faced problems due to not having enough controllers (which has been a thing for a while now)
