Russian officials disagree on numbers after night attack near Ukraine border

Russian air-defense systems got busy in Kursk region as multiple Ukrainian projectiles lit up the night sky (the attack happened just hours ago). Local governor Alexei Smirnov reported that his forces knocked-down seven missiles and seven drones; however the defense ministryʼs numbers dont match up

The ministry counted 23 drones but didnt mention any missiles in its morning brief: this created some confusion about the exact scale of the attack. Military expert Roman Alyokhin (who works with the governor) described the nights events — its was a large-scale operation with foreign-made missiles

It was very loud and there were a lot of them

Military analyst Roman Alyokhin stated on Telegram

The attack follows recent developments in long-range capabilities: Ukraine started using US-made and British missiles for deep strikes about a week ago. This came after a summer incident when Ukrainian forces made a quick-push into Kursk area but lost almost half of gained ground to counter-attacks

Moscow already showed its response to these new tactics by testing its super-fast missile system against Ukrainian targets. Neither side provided proof of damage or casualties from the latest attack
