Secret Service boss admits major security mistakes after Trump shooting incident

The top-boss of Secret Service Ronald Rowe faced hard questions from House members today about two big security mess-ups that put presidential candidate at risk

In mid-summer a shooter at Pennsylvania rally hurt Donald Trump and killed another person; the counter-sniper team had to stop the attacker (who fired 8 shots before being taken down). Just couple months later another armed person tried to attack Trump at his golf-place in Florida

It is essential that we recognize the gravity of our failure on July 13‚ 2024. I personally carry the weight of knowing that we almost lost a protectee and that our failure cost a father and husband his life

Rowe stated during testimony

The bi-partisan task force (made up of 7 republicans and 6 democrats) found many problems with security planning. Their oct report showed that local police and agents didnt work together well before the rally

Things got heated when Rep Pat Fallon questioned Rowes presence at a 9/11 event: “Do not invoke 9/11 for political purposes!“ Rowe shouted back at the congressman

To fix things up‚ Secret Service is making these changes:

  • More training for agents
  • Better talk with local police
  • Bigger security teams
  • Hiring 650 new agents
  • Adding 350 uniform officers

When Trump went back to Butler PA in fall the security was much better — task force chair Mike Kelly said it was like comparing day and night
