Trump picks ex-general for special envoy role amid new cabinet lineup

In a mid-week announcement Donald Trump picked retired Lt Gen Keith Kellogg as special envoy focusing on Ukraine-Russia relations; Kellogg previously managed the National Security Council staff during Trumps first White House term

The president-elect revealed several other high-level appointments (which came just a day before) including Jamieson Greer for US trade representative and Jay Bhattacharya to head the National Institutes of Health. The picks show quick movement in forming the next administration

For economic and military roles Kevin Hassett got selected to direct the White House National Economic Council while John Phelan received the navy secretary nomination; Jim ONeill will serve as the health and human services deputy-chief. These selections demonstrate Trumps focus on building his future government team: both with new faces and previous administration members
