Trump's victory gets quick response from both sides of Taiwan Strait
Taiwanʼs leader and Chinese officials sent well-wishes to Trump after election results. Both regions acted fast despite Trumpʼs earlier tough-talk about trade tariffs and military support costs
Early wednesday morning Taiwanʼs leader Lai Ching-te posted a quick-response message on social media platform X:
Sincere congratulations to President-elect @realDonaldTrump on your victory. Iʼm confident that the longstanding #Taiwan-#US partnership‚ built on shared values & interests‚ will continue to serve as a cornerstone for regional stability & lead to greater prosperity for us all
Chinese ambassador Xie Feng made his move after news about VP Harris planned concession; sending a warm-hearted note on X:
My warm congratulations to Mr. Trump @realDonaldTrump on his reelection as President of the United States! China looks forward to working with the U.S. side for a stable‚ sound and sustainable China-U.S. relationship
The foreign ministry in Beijing put up its own message (which was short but polite): saying they respect American peoples choice and give congrats to mr Trump
Xi Jinping hasnt shared his thoughts yet — its worth noting that about 8 yrs ago he waited a day to say congrats to Trump but around 4 yrs back he took several weeks to reach out to Biden. Both sides acted fast this time even though Trump talked about putting 60% tax on Chinese goods; and asking Taiwan to pay-up more for US military help
