Washington Post brings back year-end review with new social sharing options
Washington Posts yearly wrap-up tool Newsprint returns with cool new features for app users. Early-birds get first look at their reading habits plus fresh social-sharing cards to show off their top stories
The Washington Post launches its year-end wrap-up tool called Newsprint (which won some awards for its previous versions) today‚ marking its third year in-a-row
App users get first dibs on this years edition: theyʼll see what stories caught their eye the most and get custom-picked stuff based on how they use the app. The system looks at what each reader likes and suggests matching articles games podcasts and even recipes
The tool shows cool stuff about how people read the Post throughout 2024 — which writers they follow most what columns they cant get enough of and which stories made them click. Its got some nice features from last time around like personal video messages from Post journalists and smart picks for what to read next; but theres something new too: they added 10 special social cards that readers can share with friends
- Video messages from news-makers
- Smart content suggestions
- Reading pattern analysis
- Recipe recommendations
- Gaming options
- Podcast picks
The whole thing is set-up to make each persons year-end review feel special — like its made just for them (which it kinda is since it uses their own reading data to make everything)
