The Winamax Poker Open (WPO) Bratislava has finally come to an end with the conclusion of the festival’s biggest events, including the main highlight of the series, the €500 WPO Main Event.
The poker tournament attracted 1,577 entries across five Day 1 flights and when the dust settled, it was Slovakia’s Martin Bartoš who walked away with the title and €100,000 in top prize.
€500 WPO Main Event Final Table Results
The final table was made up of familiar names, including David Kitai and Leo Margets, both of whom currently serve as Winamax ambassadors. Unfortunately, the duo became the first players to leave the table, with Margets finishing 7th for €12,300 and Kitai claiming the 6th spot for €16,000.
Victor Hoogstoel was eliminated next, taking home €21,000 for his 5th-place finish. He was followed to the rail by Pierre Neuville who ended his bid in 4th place for €28,000. Victory Fryda fell one spot short of reaching the heads-up battle, exiting the game in 3rd place with a €64,500 payout.
Bartoš faced Richard Miklosovic heads-up, and victory didn’t come easy for the eventual champ as his opponent doubled up during the early stages of play, reducing his initial lead.
But Bartoš managed to recover from that loss and never looked back. In the final hand, it was a battle between Miklosovic’s queen-jack and Bartoš’s jack-ten. For a moment it appeared like Miklosovic was going to win it, but a ten on the flop worked wonders for Bartoš and he ended up lifting the WPO Bratislava Main Event trophy along with €100,000 in first-place prize.
Miklosovic earned €64,500 for his runner-up finish.
Bartoš Eyes EPT Prague after Short Hiatus
During his post-win interview, Bartoš acknowledged it was a tough final table with great players which he described as celebrities. Despite his impressive performance, the Slovakian poker pro admitted luck was a huge factor in his victory.
With his big win, Bartoš’ total live earnings have climbed to $477,708, pushing him into the top ten on Slovakia’s All-Time money list. He has had multiple deep runs this year, including a win in a €550 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller back in June at the Scandinavian Open Poker Championship also held in Bratislava.
Sharing his future plans, Bartoš said he would likely take a break from poker following his Main Event win, but he could give EPT Prague a shot this December.
