Attempted murder charge lodged in Samoa after gruesome assault

Apia, SAMOA — The Samoa Observer is reporting that a young man from Afega is facing an attempted murder charge after he amputated his cousin’s arm, which led to the victim getting admitted to the Tupua Tamasese Meaole National Hospital. 

The accused and the victim are first cousins and are believed to have argued over a stolen wallet belonging to the mother of the accused.

According to a relative of both the accused and the victim, the incident occurred last Friday and the two men are aged in their 20s to 30s.  

Acting Police Commissioner, Afamasaga Samuelu Leiataua confirmed with the Samoa Observer that the Police have pressed charges of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm against the accused. 

He also confirmed that the victim had his arm amputated and also suffered a laceration on his leg. 

Afamasaga added that the Police are continuing their investigation into the incident with the defendant due to appear in court next week.
