Cypriot sailors put in improved performances on their second day at the Tokyo Olympics.
According to the Cyprus Olympic Committee’s representative Argyris Argyrou, Pavlos Kontides rose to third place in the laser category, Andreas Cariolou is 14th in the RS:X category.
As for the women, Natassa Lappa rose to 22nd position in the RS:X category, while Marilena Makri fell to 25th.
Kontides came seventh in one race, fourth in another race, and fifth in a third race. With the worst placement being removed, Kontides’ current point tally places him in third place.
Finland’s Kaarle Tapper leads the category, with Tonci Stipanovic in second place.
Stipanovic is well-known to Kontides since they train together under the same coach.
Cariolou had a strong start on his second day of sailing, coming in sixth in the fourth race and ninth in the fifth and sixth races.
Natassa Lappa put a poor first-day performance behind her by finishing in 19th, 17th and 22nd place, resulting in a four-place climb. With penalty points factored in, Lappa is now in 22nd position.
Things are quite difficult for Marilena Makri in the laser radial category, where she finished in the bottom half in the first two races on Monday.
Makri finished in 26th position in her third race and 27th in her fourth race.
This brings her to 25th position overall with all penalty points factored in.
