Mon Repos fire was maliciously set – GFS

The fire ravaging the house at Mon Repos, ECD

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) has determined that the fire which destroyed a house at Lot 233 Mon Repos North, Fifth Street, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was maliciously set.

Fifteen firefighters quickly got into action and managed to extinguish the blaze that had engulfed a two-storey wooden and concrete building.

The building was owned by Kurt Lalchand and occupied by Falesha Sumner and her family of seven.

As a result, the building and its contents were destroyed, leaving eight persons homeless.

“The fire was maliciously set by person(s) unknown,” the GFS said in a statement.

Meanwhile, two houses in close proximity to the building of origin were also affected.

Four black tanks, along with a quantity of PVC ceiling and guttering on the eastern side of both buildings, were destroyed as a result of radiated heat from the building of origin.
