Amit Singh (deceased) and Yogeendra Sukhdeo (suspecT)

Police have tracked down the three other suspects who were reportedly involved in the murder 21-year-old Amit Singh, the son of a popular Campbellville, Georgetown businessman.

However, according to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the trio denied their involvement in the murder which occurred at around 14:15hrs at a house at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown.

The trio claimed that they are employees of the prime suspect, Yogeendra Sukhdeo, who is the owner of several businesses.

“They all gave an account as to where they were at the time of the murder and the investigators are currently making efforts to confirm or reject their alibis,” police headquarters explained.

INews understands that following the account provided by the other three suspects, Sukhdeo has since informed investigators that he acted alone in conducting the heinous crime.

However, this claim is being investigated.

Police initially reported that Singh was murdered by four men. Police explained that the victim was lured by the four suspects to a house at Middle Road, La Penitence under the pretext that they had gold for sale.

Whilst at the house, the four suspects brutally murdered the victim, after which, they wrapped his body in a sheet. The suspects then fled the scene, taking with them, the cash that the victim had taken to purchase the gold.

The perpetrators then locked the building, with the victim’s body inside.

Based on intelligence received, ranks from the Criminal Investigations Department arrested Sukhdeo.

Sukhdeo had reportedly confessed to the crime and had taken detectives to his house at Lot 1896 20th Avenue Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) where a search was carried out in his room and the sum of some $7.7 million all consisting of $5,000 bills, was found.

The stolen money that was recovered by police

INews had previously reported that Sukhdeo and Singh were close friends. The two men were also business associates.

According to a source close to the investigation, the victim was at his Campbellville, Georgetown home when he was picked up by Sukhdeo.

Sukhdeo reportedly arrived in a black motorcar with fake licenced plates.

Singh reportedly joined the car driven, to head to the location at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, to purchase the gold. The transaction was arranged by Sukhdeo.

After some time had passed and the victim did not return home, family members contacted the police.

Based on information received, the friend was contacted and he reportedly confessed to the crime and led detectives to the house where the victim’s body remained.

The suspect then led detectives to his home where the money was recovered.

Meanwhile, the house at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown is reportedly owned by the father of the prime suspect.
