Breaking news: Three ships hit in Red Sea as Yemen group blocks key trade route
Yemen-based group hit three ships near vital trade routes yesterday causing major disruption to global shipping. Maritime security firms confirmed explosions but reported no crew injuries
Yesterday Yemeni Houthi forces took aim at three ships in the Red-sea region (a key route for world-wide trade): their actions were meant to stop vessels heading to Israeli ports
The targeted ships - all with Liberia registration - faced different situations in various spots. The Motaro vessel was spotted near Yemens west coast moving from Egypt towards Shanghai; SC Montreal got caught up near the Arabian sea while going to Oman; and the Maersk Kowloon was somewhere in western Indian ocean waters
British firm Ambrey reported trouble near Al Dhubab: two big blasts happened about 14 nautical-miles from shore. The UK maritime group also got word about three more explosions down south of Mokha port - but good news is that ships crew stayed safe and kept going
The Houthi group says its not stopping these actions til Israel ends its Gaza moves. This whole thing is making big trouble for ships that need to use the route between Red-sea and Gulf of Aden - which lots of world trade depends on. The attacks show how the mid-east problems are spreading to seas that connect Asia Europe and Africa
