Dutch legal system sends warning signal about F-35 parts going to Middle East
Netherlands top court advisor wants to stop F-35 fighter jet parts from reaching Israel due to Gaza situation. Decision comes after earlier court said these exports break international rules
The Dutch legal system made a big-time choice about war supplies: its top advisor says dont send F-35 plane parts to Israel anymore. The Supreme Courts expert gave this advice on 11-29-24 which backs up what another court said back in winter
Netherlands military storage system (which keeps U.S-made F-35 pieces) has been sending stuff to different places including Israel; at least one box went there since last fall. The advisor thinks theres a real problem here: these planes might be used wrong in Gaza which breaks world-wide rules
Human-rights people like Oxfam-Netherlands are happy with this news and want quick changes: “The government must stop being part of whats happening in Gaza‚“ they said. The court will make its final choice soon – but didnt say exactly when
The whole thing started after what happened in Gaza last October. Israel says it follows all rules; they had about 1200 people killed in an attack and lost many to kidnappers. But Gaza officials tell us that since then over 44 thousand people died there and almost everyone had to leave their homes at some point; lots of buildings are broken-down now
In the Hague (thats where they make big legal choices) they looked at everything and said: these plane-parts might help break world rules – so they must stop. Now the highest court needs to make the last word; but its main helper says theyre right about this
