Mexican workers to get bigger paychecks as government sets new minimum wage rules
Mexico plans to boost its daily minimum wage by 12% starting next month. The increase comes from joint decision between business-owners and workers groups‚ while officials say it wont affect prices
The mexican government just made a big-time announcement about worker pay (which happens every december) and its gonna make lots of people happy. Labor Minister Marath Bolanos shared the news at President Claudia Sheinbaums morning meet-up.
Starting jan-2025‚ workers will get paid 278.80 pesos per-day which is way more than the current 249 pesos; however things are different up north where border-area workers can expect about 420 pesos daily (because living costs are higher near the US)
We continue on the path to rebuild the minimum wage and the purchasing power of Mexican men and women
Over the last few years mexicos basic pay has gone up by 135% - thats more than double what it used to be. The latest boost came after business-folks and worker groups shook hands on the deal
Sheinbaum who got the top job couple months back says dont worry about prices going up: “They said if this took place it was going to increase inflation; thats false“. She wants to keep raising pay by 12% each year til 2030 so families can buy two-and-half grocery baskets worth of food
- Northern border areas get higher wages
- Previous increases didnt cause inflation problems
- Business and labor groups agreed on changes
- Government plans yearly increases through 2030
The whole thing shows how Sheinbaums team wants to make sure workers can buy more stuff with their money
