Mexico's deadly highway crash: Rescue teams race against time near US border
A tragic bus-and-truck collision in central Mexico left nineteen people dead yesterday morning. Local rescue teams worked non-stop to recover victims from a steep ravine while authorities searched for the truck driver
In a devastating incident yesterday morning a passenger bus hit a corn-loaded tractor-trailer on a highway in Zacatecas Mexico (the crash happened around 4am local time)
Governor David Monreal first reported twenty-four casualties but officials later changed the count: nineteen people lost their lives and six got hurt. The tractor-trailers cargo got loose which caused the deadly crash - rescue teams had to work in difficult terrain to get to victims who fell into a nearby ravine
The states attorney general office started looking for the truck driver who left the scene; military personnel and emergency responders worked together at the crash site. The bus was going to Ciudad Juarez - a busy crossing point between Mexico and US (none of the victims were migrants as per official statement)
- Military teams secured the area
- Rescue workers recovered bodies
- Medical staff helped injured survivors
- Local police investigated crash scene
Local authorities dont expect to find more victims; however theyʼre still checking the deep ravine where some passengers fell during this tragic accident
