Romanian election puzzle: Pro-eu parties lead while far-right gains ground
Romanian Social Democrats take first place in parliament vote while far-right groups show unexpected growth. Constitutional Court weighs first-round presidential results amid electoral system check-up
The romanian political scene got super-busy this week when Social-Democrats grabbed the top spot in parliament elections (showing 22.3% with almost all votes counted)
The voting landscape showed interesting shifts - three far-right parties (Alliance for Uniting Romanians‚ SOS‚ and POT) together got about one-third of all votes which is quite a jump from last time. Pro-european parties like Elena Lasconiʼs Save Romania Union got 12.3% while Liberals scored 14.3%
We want a coalition that will continue Romaniaʼs European course; the Social Democratic Party can be the balancing factor
The story gets more complex with presidential elections - after a surprising first round on nov 24th where far-right candidate Calin Georgescu did well the Constitutional Court ordered a full recount. Electoral chief Toni Grebla says they didnt find big problems in 9.46 million votes
The whole situation has raised some eyebrows about outside influence (Romania being a strong Ukraine supporter). There were claims about TikTok helping one candidate but both TikTok and Russia say its not true
The next big step is coming dec 8th with presidential run-off between Georgescu and Lasconi - but first the Court needs to approve first-round results today at 3pm GMT. This matters because Romanian president picks who forms government so these elections are super-connected
I call on all patriotic sovereigntist nationalist forces to come together and form a nationalist government
