Russian drone hits apartment block in western Ukraine city, leaving casualties
Night-time attack damages residential building in Ternopil causing fire and casualties. Emergency teams rushed to help residents while air-raid alerts kept the region on high alert
A pre-dawn strike hit Ternopil today when russian drones targeted the western Ukrainian city (about 134 miles from Polish border) damaging a five-story apartment complex. Viacheslav Negoda head of local military administration confirmed one death and several serious injuries.
The attack sparked a blaze on buildings top floor forcing residents to flee their homes in darkness. Serhiy Nadal regional defense chief reported that fire-fighters and rescue teams rushed to help people; while many had to leave their flats behind
Just a week ago the area faced russias biggest-ever drone assault which left many without power. The city - home to over 1-million people before the war started almost 3 years ago - has seen many move westward since the full-scale invasion began
Air-raid warnings kept locals on edge for several hours past mid-night: emergency crews worked non-stop at the scene. Social media showed scary night-time footage of fire coming out from building windows however independent fact-checkers couldnt verify these reports right away
Unfortunately there are casualties: one person has died there are seriously wounded
The attack comes as both sides maintain they dont target civilian areas - although evidence shows residential zones often suffer damage during this long-running conflict
