Chinaʼs immigration agency reports joint efforts with the US to combat smuggling. Recent surge in Chinese nationals attempting illegal entry into America prompts increased cooperation between the two nations

Chinas National Immigration Administration has stated that the country is stepping up its cooperation with other nations including the US to fight smuggling and other serious crimes according to state media reports from last friday

The administration pointed out that smugglers and cross-border criminal groups have been tricking people into taking part in smuggling activities lately. They didnt give a specific time-frame or say if it was about smuggling goods people or both. “During this period individuals personal safety was seriously threatened‚ causing great economic losses and some even paid the price of their lives“

Law enforcement departments from countries like the US are working together with China to crack down on smuggling and other serious violations and crimes. Theyʼre doing this “on the basis of mutual respect and consultation on an equal footing“ as reported by state broadcaster CCTV

This year the US has been sending Chinese people who tried to enter the country illegally back to China on charter flights. Its gotten harder to get US visas‚ and the economic effects of Chinas COVID-19 lockdowns led to a big increase in Chinese nationals showing up at the US-Mexico border

Nearly 56‚000 Chinese migrants have been encountered at the Southwest border with Mexico and the northern border with Canada crossing both between and at ports of entry in the 2024 fiscal year through May

according to US government data

Thats more than the 52‚700 that crossed in the entire 2023 fiscal year that ended last october. The difficulty of getting into America legally seems to be pushing more people to try risky illegal routes
