2023: Expectation was that the race was between APC & PDP; out of nowhere, Peter Obi came—Babachir Lawal

Babachir Lawal , former secretary to the government of the federation, said that the analysis from the beginning was that the 2023 presidential election is going to be between the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but out of nowhere, Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate just came into the factor.

Babachir Lawal made the statement in an interview with the Channels Television during the Politics Today program.

Seun Okinbaloye asked Babachir Lawal what he think has changed in the political climate especially on the side of the Labour Party, since the last time he came to the program and now.

Babachir Lawal responded that what has changed was that area they do not expected Labour Party to do well, surprisingly, the party is scaling through.

“The momentum is so much that it is difficult to contain.”

When this 2023 election commence, Peter Obi was not on the card, during the computations as to what will happen, the expectation was that the race was a straight one between the APC and the PDP, but out of nowhere, Peter Obi comes in. And followed by Rabiu Kwankwaso and the whole permutation change. Unfortunately for the two parties (APC and PDP) they didn’t have the capacity to factor in this new dynamics. The things is overcoming them.

Babachir then claim that as he speaks, Peter Obi has run PDP out of Taraba state, Plateau state, Benue state, Kaduna state and other states.

” Our calculation was that we are targeting 25% but now we are targeting 55-70% in the north.
