The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has called upon the organizers of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration to provide evidence of police brutality during the protest. He noted that despite the passage of several months since the demonstration, the organizers have failed to substantiate their claims of police brutality.

During a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union in Accra on October 24, Dr. Dampare expressed his willingness to investigate the matter once evidence is presented, stating, “As I speak, after months of completing that demonstration till today not a shred of evidence has been brought up to indicate that police brutalized them.”

The OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration, which occurred from September 21 to September 23, 2023, witnessed protesters expressing their concerns about various issues in the country, including the government’s economic policies and alleged corruption. The protest resulted in the arrest of over 50 demonstrators by the police, leading to public outcry and allegations of excessive force against unarmed civilians.
