The eight national local teams that have qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) Tournament in Algeria will all be first-time winners of the championship.
The quarterfinals start on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki at 4:00 p.m. The host nation, Algeria, plays against Ivory Coast.
And at 7:00 p.m., at the 19 May 1956 Stadium, Senegal plays against Mauritania in the second quarterfinal of the competition.
The third and fourth games are between Madagascar and Mozambique at the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium at 4:00 p.m., and the Black Galaxies and their Nigerian counterparts at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran.
A report reaching the intransigent editors of www.atspo.com indicates that CAF has announced a 60% increase in prize money for the winner of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022). The winner of Algeria 2022, out of the eight teams in competition for the trophy, will be a first-time winner.
The previous six champions received $1,250, but after Algeria 2022, the winner receives $2 million, the finalist receives $800,000, and the third-placed team receives $500,000 in the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
From the US$5,450,000 that was disbursed to all the nations that took part in the tournament’s previous edition, held in Cameroon two years ago, the total prize money allocated for the event has increased to US$7,900,000.
Surprisingly, the four teams that do not advance beyond the quarterfinals will receive US$400,000, while the two countries that finish second in groups of three will receive US$300,000, the same amount as countries that finished third in groups of four teams.
This edition of the tournament will crown a new champion on Saturday, February 4, at Nelson Mandela Stadium, and the trophy will go to a first-time winner.
The Black Galaxies have a lucrative record in the competition, having played in the finals on two occasions, in the inaugural edition in 2009 and 2014.
