Asante Kotoko lose grounds on betPawa Premier League race after suffering defeat at Karela United

Reigning champions Asante Kotoko lost for the third time this season as they continue the defence of the league title they won last season.

The Porcupines suffered a 1-0 defeat at Anyinase to

Karela United in a betPawa Premier League Matchday 15 fixture played at the CAM Park.

This 1-0 victory for the home side, lifted them out of the relegation zone, leaving Asante Kotoko with much to do as they seek to retain the league title this season.

A Samuel Atta Kumi penalty early in the second half, win all three points for Karela United who will look to build on this performance as they endue their worst moment since they joined the Ghanaian top-flight league.

For Asante Kotoko, it leaves them with much work to do for the reminder of the campaign in their attempt to make it back-to-back league triumphs.

They now trail leaders Aduana FC by four points nearing the halfway point of the season, and with some difficult games to come, it will be interesting to see how the Porcupines pull the chestnut from the blazing fire.

Kotoko’s next league game will be against second placed Accra Lions in Kumasi on Monday in an encounter they cannot afford to drop points.

Accra Lions beat Great Olympics 3-0 in the other game played today, and they will be a stubborn opposition for the Porcupines.
