ECG glitch. A Possible Nationwide Shutdown?

“The software glitches at ECG is a reminder to Ghanaian leaders to think critically as they continue to push this flawed idea of centralizing all civic services in one Ghana Card database,” Vice President of IMANI Africa, Bright Simons has cautioned. This was cited from Starr Fm earlier today 2nd. October 2022.

In response to ransomware or zero-day exploit, he tweeted that the nation would shut down. This is on the back of the nationwide technical glitch in the Electricity Company of Ghana operations. This technical hitch prevents the smooth delivery of credit services to prepaid users in several operational areas cut across the entire nation. For the past few days, some ECG customers have been unable to add more electric power credit to their prepaid meters. This is a result of the system not being able to read credits received into it and can only be resolved when done manually. Some persons just this afternoon have expressed their frustrations at the various district head offices where they can only get the power supply and afterward will need to go home with an ECG agent to manually make the connection for them. This issue that began on Monday is yet to receive an amicable solution to it as of today 2nd. October 2022.

ECG extends weekend working hours due to vending challenges

Customers across 10 operational regional districts of the ECG in Volta, Kumasi, Accra, Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Winneba, Swedru, Koforidua, Nkawkaw, and Tafo have been impacted by the technical issue.

Meanwhile, all the various district offices will still be in operation over the weekend today to help resolve the challenges of those whose power has been out of supply for the time being.
