The Eze Igbo Foundation is to review its “Feed the Hungry” project to be more relevant to beneficiaries, President of the foundation and King of the Igbo community in Ghana, His Royal Majesty, Eze (Dr.) AMB Chukwudi J. Ihenetu has disclosed in an interview.
The review, he observed, is geared towards helping beneficiaries to earn income in order to fend for themselves.
“We will review the “Feed the Hungry” project to help citizens make their own earnings. The foundation is eager to show the people how to make their own money to care for themselves,” Dr. Chukwudu Ihenetu said.
The Eze Igbo in Ghana further observed that his outfit has come up with a programme to set up the “Eze Igbo Kitchen” to assist food sellers.
The programme, he emphasized, will supply beneficiaries with the necessary food items to prepare for sale.
He said, “The Foundation will assemble people and supply them with gas stove, cooking utensils, food items of their choice of work and set up a kitchen for them. Our main focus is single mothers, widows, and the youth that are capable of working hard.”
“The kitchen will be set up for people who have the zeal to work hard because their operations will be audited at regular intervals to ensure they do it well,” Dr. Ihenetu added.
To expand their operations, the Eze Igbo Foundation has entered into partnership with Viola Ford Fletcher Foundation and is in the process of concluding same with the Ministry of Health and the Sanitation Ministry in Ghana to work towards promoting good health among the populace.
“We will set up mobile clinics in various towns so the people can get access to good health care,” the Igbo King said.
The Eze Igbo Foundation has over the years undertaken several projects in Ghana including the construction of libraries, public toilets as well as paid the school fees of many people in the country.
The “Feed the Hungry” project began by feeding a 1,000 people a day but later reviewed it to providing hot meals on Fridays.
The project, during the outbreak of COVID-19 resorted to distributing foodstuffs to over 1,000 persons every Friday.
The Foundation is also on the verge of drilling a number of boreholes across the country to help the people get access to good drinking water. Enditem
