Farmer Age 70 Found Dead In A Bush

Opanyin Kweku Oppong Abdulai, a 70-year-old cocoa farmer in the Agona West of the Central Region, was discovered dead on his field in Dapong community, close to Upper Bobikuma.

The deceased’s body has been placed in the mortuary of the Swedru Municipal Government Hospital for an autopsy.

The family of the deceased stated that Opanyin Kweku Oppong Abdulai went to the farm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, to pick cocoa but did not return, according to a source at the Upper Bobikuma Police Station who gave this information to the Ghana News Agency.

According to the source, a search squad made up of members of the Police CID was sent to the farm where the deceased’s lifeless body was discovered under a mango tree on his cocoa field, covered in timber slaps.

The source claims that a 24-year-old farmer named Samuel Appiah has been detained by the police as a suspect.

He was accused of threatening to kill the dead after the latter accused the suspect of robbing him of his cocoa beans.

The dead had claimed that the suspect, who lives in the same hamlet as him, had stolen his cocoa beans.

According to the source, the suspect denied killing the cocoa farmer, and an inquiry was ongoing to determine what exactly happened to cause his demise.
