FG To Release N1.18 Billion For University Autonomy, Others, Unions Fault Government

The Federal Government is set to release N1.1 billion for university autonomy as the unions fault the government.

This fund also covers renegotiation of the 2010 agreements between the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and other allied Institutions (NASU), and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics.

A breakdown of how the government planned to distribute the fund among the union was not disclosed as it was listed as a new project for tertiary institutions in the country, according to punchng.com.

Dr. Anderson Ezeibe, the National President of ASUP, faulted the amount set aside by the government for the renegotiation of the agreement between the union and the government.

He questioned the amount and how they came to the figure to renegotiate or implement the outcome of the renegotiation.

No agreement has bee reached unless the government has decided on its own. This is not in lone with collective bargaining, said Ezeibe.

In the same manner, the Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Technology Minna Chapter, Professor Gbolahan Bolarin, stated that the government do not know what they are talking about. An explanation is needed on how they want to pivot autonomy with such amount.
