John Mahama Is A Good Communicator But He ‘Failed’ With These Comments – Serwaa Amihere

Serwaa Amihere, co-host of GHOne’s political morning show today, Wednesday, October 5, 2022 lashed out at former President John Mahama for certain comments he made prior to the 2020 elections. John Mahama has come under so much backlash for certain comments he made about galamsey. As the current Akufo-Addo led NPP government is attacked for failing to stop galamsey, they have in turn also blamed the erstwhile John Mahama government.

In a pre-election campaign John Mahama mentioned that he will grant amnesty to some jailed illegal miners. He went on to say that he will get them released because they had learnt their lesson. On GHToday, Sam George called on President Akufo-Addo to accept that he had failed. He noted that certain kingpins in galamsey are already saying that they have the president in their pockets. Serwaa Amihere, the host of the show pointed out that John Mahama himself has questions to answer regarding galamsey. She questioned why a former president will use such a platform to promote galamsey.

Sam George tried to rebut and say that many of those arrested at galamsey sites are small boys who do the menial jobs there and so John Mahama only wants to set those people free. Serwaa however wasn’t impressed and questioned then if those in cells for stealing and fraud should also be released because they are just pawns in the hands of some kingpins.

Serwaa boldly told Sam George that John Mahama despite his prowess in communication failed on that day to demonstrate a good example. She noted that she admires the former president for his choice of words but his comments on galamsey were in bad taste and should not be encouraged anywhere. She called on NDC communicators to stop defending the words of John Mahama because it will take the country nowhere.

Interestingly, the said video being shared has other comments of John Mahama speaking on training these young people who will be released so they do legal mining, yet certain parts have been cropped and only some portions shared online. The NPP claim that they lost a number of votes in galamsey areas. They argue that the NDC have been the biggest enemies of the fight against galamsey.
