Roma boss José Mourinho laments that his Roma team lacks the depth to rotate when playing three games in a row: “There is always an issue…”

The only Serie A team without a victory this year, Cremonese, shockingly eliminated the Giallorossi from the Coppa Italia quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Prior to this round, the Grigiorossi had previously defeated Napoli, the table leaders.

As reported by Gazzetta, Mourinho told reporters after the game, “Congratulations to Cremonese who earned two great victories against Napoli and us.”

“They have even more merit if we consider that they played in Serie B the previous year. We were hurt by a single mistake in the second half, but I witnessed a fantastic response and our opponents defended with many of guys.”

After falling behind 2-0, Roma’s late penalty goal by Andrea Belotti was insufficient to prevent Cremonese from moving on to face Fiorentina in the semifinals.

Following their 2-1 loss to Napoli on Sunday at the Stadio Maradona, Roma has now suffered two consecutive losses in all competitions.

“We must now concentrate on the upcoming games, but we must also keep in mind that it is difficult to rotate this team, especially when we play three games in a row,” remarked Mourinho.

“We played a wonderful match in Naples, but we deserved a different outcome. I was pleased with my group. I am unable to say the same now.

Mourinho started Cristian Volpao, Belotti, and Lorenzo Pellegrini in a front-three while resting Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham. Chris Smalling was replaced by Marash Kumbulla in central defense, and 19-year-old Benjamin Tahirovic moved to the center of the park.

“The story is the same every time. It was something I had to think about because the medical team informed me prior to the game that several players were at risk.”

“If Dybala had played and had an injury, we might have qualified, but he would have been out.”

“Unfortunately, an issue always arises. It’s a problem if I make adjustments and the team performs poorly. It will be a problem if I don’t make any modifications and players get hurt. There is always something wrong.

After declaring last weekend that Italy international Zaniolo was no longer a part of the project, Mourinho declined to comment on the subject.

Before the match with Cremonese, director Tiago Pinto promised to speak with Zaniolo when the moment was perfect.

“The club has been quite clear, therefore I won’t speak again,” Mourinho concluded.
