Shaibu Tanko Of Karela United Has Tamed Asante Kotoko To Help His Team Escape The Relegation Zone.

The former Real Tamale United (R.T.U.) gaffer Shaibu Tanko led Karela United as their new coach against Asante Kotoko, and they are now out of the relegation zone on the league table.

The Aiyinase club has occupied the 13th position on the league table with nineteen points, along with Berekum Chelsea and Dreams FC.

Shaibu Tanko, confident of a win in his first game as manager of a relegation, threatened Karela United in the 2022-2023 league season before the game at Crosby Awuah Memorial Park on Thursday, February 2, 2023.

He told Happy FM in Accra on Thursday morning, “Nowhere is cool; everywhere is difficult except you know how to handle these difficulties. Kotoko is a big club by all standards, but on the field of play, it is between us, and we are looking first at it.” He added, “The club and I are putting in place the necessary structures to avoid relegation first and foremost.”

The task seemed difficult for Tanko with the records and statistics supporting the defending league champion at Crosby Awuah Memorial Park, and Karela has failed to win against Kotoko in their last four meetings at home.

The Porcupine Warriors put a lot of pressure on Karela United’s back line early in the game, but they were wasteful upfront.

In the eighth minute of the game, Ugandan international Steven Mukwala had a great chance to give Asante Kotoko the lead but was unable to beat goalkeeper Prince Asempa.

At the hour mark, Enoch Morrison almost gave the visitors the lead with a daring strike, but his shot went straight into Asempa’s hands. As a result, the first half ended in a scoreless draw at Crosby Awuah Memorial Park in Aiyinase.

Karela United began the game by putting pressure on the Asante Kotoko defence, resulting in a penalty after Atta Kumi was fouled by Mohammed Sheriff outside the penalty box.

In the 60th minute of play, Atta Kumi skillfully dispatched the ball firmly into Frederick Asare’s net to give Karela United the lead. The goal could not be overturned by the opposition, and Tanko thus had a victory to help Karela escape the relegation zone.
