Strike: Schools Shut Down In UK As Teachers Demand Higher Wages

Schools have been closed as well as transport system disrupted as half a million workers went on strike in Britain today calling for higher wages.

This is said to be the largest walkout in 12 years as teachers and other work force march in protest calling for a rise in the in their salaries.

This is the biggest day of strike since 2011 due to the issue of cost-of-living that befall Europe, says Britain’s umbrella labour , Trades Union Congress.

Rishi Sunak, British Prime Minister, had called for a reasonable and affordable pay rise as he warned that bug pay rises may defeat the aim to track down inflation.

Several unions have pointed fingers at the Prime Minister of not knowing how ordinary working people struggle to make ends meet in the face of low pay, insecure job and spiraling costs.

Teachers, train drivers, border force workers at UK air and seaports were among the latest groups to partake in the demonstration.

57-year-old London teacher, Nigel Adams, who joined thousand of teachers in the protest, said that the workload is always bigger with the inflation and their salary is lower.

We are exhausted, we are paying the price and so are the children, he added.

The protesters held placards carrying different inscriptions like pay up and we cannot put your kids first if you put their teachers last.
