On February 4, 2023, the Nelson Mandela Stadium will host the grand finale of the seventh African Nations Championship (CHAN).

It was reported that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a 60% increase in prize money for the winner of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2022), staged in Algeria.

At the quarterfinal round of the competition, the intransigent editors of www.atspo.com hinted that the current teams competing had not taken home the championship trophy.

Madagascar made history by becoming the first team to win a bronze medal in the competition on their first attempt. A late goal by Jean Razafindrakoto gave Madagascar the victory in the third-place playoff at the Stade Olympique d’Oran.

On Saturday night, the two technical directors, Madjid Bougherra for the Algerian Dessert Warriors and Pape Bouna Thiaw for the Senegalese Lions of Teranga, will compete for the ultimate trophy, as both are former players for their respective countries. 

This final draws a lot of attention because Algeria won their last CAF final, the 2019 TotalEnergies AFCON final, by a 1-0 score, denying the Senegalese their first AFCON title. 

With the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) eyeing its third continental trophy in twelve months, Senegal can become the first nation to win all three major CAF continental competitions! To make it even more special, they would be reigning treble champions at the same time. 

Senegal spent a lot of time on the lawn of the Olembé stadium in Yaoundé (Cameroon) to win its first continental title (4-2) against Egypt; they defeated Egypt again for the 2022 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Mozambique and have a chance to win the CHAN in Algeria.

Madjid Bougherra’s team is the second team, after Morocco in 2018, to reach the competition’s final as the host nation; they were the top-scoring team in the semifinal stage of the competition and humiliated the Nigerians by five goals without a consolation. 

Aymen Mahious from USM Alger in Algeria is the top scorer of the competition with five goals, and they have failed to concede a goal in their five games played in the competition, making Madjid Bougherra’s side the only team with five wins, nine goals scored, and no goals conceded.

Will Pape Thiaw of the Teranga Lions help the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) win their third continental trophy in a year, or will Madjid Mahious lead the Dessert Warriors to their first trophy in the competition and as the second country after Morocco?
