‘ Wrong template for funding, causing crisis in tertiary institutions ‘- ASUU President reveals

The National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Emmanuel Osodeke has revealed that one of the major problem causing crisis in the teritary education system was the use of a wrong template for funding of tertiary institutions.

He made this known during a memorial lecture, noting that these problems encountered in Nigerian universities originated from the Shehu Shagari and Ibrahim Babaginda led administration who allegedly gave the country to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Brethren Wood Institutions of the World Bank. He however suggested that other means if funding should be adopted so as to restore the pride of tertiary institutions across the country.

Osodeke said: ” One of the major problems facing the tertiary institution is the establishment of universities without template for funding. Also, the method of appointment and recruitment into state-owned universities by the government has also been a problem”.
