2 unvaccinated men latest COVID-19 deaths

…69 new cases recorded.

Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll is now 1274 after two persons who has tested positive for the novel coronavirus died.

The Health Ministry on Thursday reported that the latest fatalities are two males, an 82-year-old from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) and a 76-year-old from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), who succumbed on August 1 and 9, respectively. Neither of the men was COVID-19 vaccinated.

This makes the third COVID-19 death to be recorded in the month of August.
Meanwhile, another 69 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 within the previous 24-hour period.
The total number of confirmed cases in the country is now 70,353, with more than 500 active cases, including two persons who are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the remaining persons in isolation – 500 in home isolation and 13 in institutional isolation.
To date, some 68,564 persons have recovered from the life-threatening virus.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Guyana, a total of 681,159 tests were conducted of which 32,217 males and 38,136 females tested positive.
A breakdown of the new infections shows one case from Region One (Barima-Waini), three from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), 18 from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 41 from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), one from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), three from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), and one each from Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
No cases were recorded from Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) and Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).
In the Region of the Americas, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is pegged at over 169 million with a death toll of 2.7 million. Globally, the confirmed positives stand at over 571 million with more than 6.3 million reported deaths.
