An American businessman was on Thursday freed of gun-related charges before the Gun Court.
Elerton Whyte, 52, a resident of Atlanta, Georgia, was charged in March after a police team seized two illegal guns in his vehicle along Chisholm Avenue in St. Andrew.
Prosecutors had reported that on March 2, Mr. Whyte was at a party along Chisholm Avenue when a police team arrived on the scene.
The American and three other men were seen driving away from the party when the cops intercepted the vehicle and requested a search.
Two illegal weapons were found on the back seat.
But at the trial, Mr. Whyte's attorney, Christopher Townsend, argued that his client was offering the men a lift to the nearest taxi stand and had no knowledge they were armed.
He further argued that there was no evidence presented to suggest that the American had knowledge of the weapons in the vehicle.
The judge agreed and ordered his release.
Two of the three other men were convicted in the case, while the third was freed.
