Cop accused of stealing cooking oil granted bail

The police detective who was charged for his connection to the theft of cooking oil valued at $3,000,000 was today granted bail for the sum of $750,000. 

Detective Corporal Maurice Whittingham was granted bail when he appeared before parish court judge Nicole Kellier, on condition that he reports to the Olympic Gardens Police Station  Monday ,Wednesday and Saturday. 

There is also a daily curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., he is surrender his travelling documents as well as not to contact or interfere with the witnesses.

The accused is expected to reappear before the court on March 10, 2023.

The allegations before the court are that December  15, 2022 about 8:30 a.m., Whittingham and his co-accused Michael Daley, stopped a truck laden with cooking oil from Seprod heading for delivery and robbed it.

The truck's driver and sidemen were later found tied up and the truck found in the Thetford community near Old Harbour, St Catherine.

Police have yet to recover the loot.
