By Clinton McGregor

The correctional officer who was allegedly caught smuggling contraband into the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, in East Kingston, has been charged.

Alwayne Robinson, 28, was on Thursday charged with possession of and dealing in ganja and introducing contraband into a penal institution.

He was detained Tuesday by fellow warders who requested a search of his person.

Mr. Robinson was reportedly found in possession of a cell phone and two packages with ganja.

He was escorted to the Elletson Road Police Station and handed over to investigators.

Radio Jamaica News was informed that the police took him back to the prison where they conducted a search of his motor vehicle.

The search reportedly yielded several packages containing ganja and tobacco, two boxes of rolling paper, a cell phone, sim card and ten lighters.
