The inability to control crime and violence is deemed as Jamaica's biggest failure since independence in 1962.
The latest RJRGLEANER Don Anderson poll shows that 46 per cent of Jamaicans believe crime and violence is among the country's biggest set back.
More than 45,000 people have been murdered in Jamaica over the last 60 years.
The latest statistics released by the Jamaica Constabulary Force indicate that 909 murders have been committed in Jamaica up to August 8 this year.
This is an increase over the 880 murders committed during the similar period last year.
Pollster Don Anderson said Jamaicans view crime and violence as the greatest setback.
Of the 46 per cent of people who shared that view, Mr. Anderson said the response was generally split across age groups, with just slightly more respondents falling in the 55 and older age group.
He said 18 per cent of those interviewed said the second biggest issue in Jamaica was the lack of economic growth, followed by 14 per cent who think it is the failure of successive governments to ease poverty.
Another 12 per cent said corruption was the biggest issue.
RJRGLEANER Don Anderson poll has a margin of error of plus or minus three per cent.
The field work for the poll was conducted among 1,113 Jamaicans across the island.
