I’VE GOT MAGIC and DUKE could battle out Saturday’s St Catherine Cup at six furlongs should sprinters GOD OF LOVE and MADELYN’S SUNSHINE, try to outdo each other on the lead in the Caymanas Park feature set to run off at 4:10 pm.
GOD OF LOVE used his speed and a light impost to beat slow-starting topweight DUKE by four and a quarter lengths into third place on December 10 at six furlongs. The speedster circled MADELYN’S SUNSHINE and kick for home, leaving EAGLE ONE chasing in vain.
However, GOD OF LOVE returns with 124lb, 10lb heavier than his December 10 win, which has swung the scale in MADELYN’S SUNSHINE’s favour after enjoying a four-pound advantage when they last met.
With the scale on her side, MADELYN’S SUNSHINE, who appeared to have underperformed when beaten by GOD OF LOVE, should prove tougher on the lead.
The expected speed duel should benefit closers I’VE GOT MAGIC and DUKE, who both ran strong races in the December 3 Mouttet Mile, which continues to sprout return winners.
United States-bred I’VE GOT MAGIC returned to land the Ahwhofah Sprint at six furlongs on December 11, an easy three-length victory against overnight allowance runners. I’VE GOT MAGIC led MAHOGANY to the top of the lane in his last race.
DUKE, who finished a storming second in the Mouttet Mile before finishing third to GOD OF LOVE, was a good runner-up behind much-improved SHE’S MY DESTINY at five and a half furlongs on December 26, staying on strongly behind a quick 1:04.4.
