Flash flood warning issued for flood-prone areas

The Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood warning for flood-prone areas of several parishes across Jamaica.

Jamaicans are being advised that although tropical storm conditions are no longer expected, it is still anticipated that Ian's outer bands will produce moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the island, especially in southern and northeastern parishes today through to Tuesday.

In a tweet minutes after eight this morning, the Meteorological Service said the flash flood warning is in effect for St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, and Clarendon.

This means that flooding has been reported or will occur shortly.

The Met Service also said a flash flood watch is in effect for similar areas of Manchester, St Elizabeth, and Westmoreland.
