Jamaica has now crossed the 300 mark for road fatalities this year.
The deaths of two persons on the Tryall main road in Hanover on Tuesday morning increased the number to 302.
One of the deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Onikie Barnes, of Goshen, St. Elizabeth.
Mr. Barnes was employed to the Grand Palladium Hotel and was returning from work when the mishap occurred.
A 51-year-old female passenger from his vehicle also succumbed to her injuries.
It's reported that about 12:40, Mr. Barnes was driving toward Hopewell when another car drifted into his path causing the vehicles to collide.
Mr. Barnes and the woman died at the scene.
The driver of the other car and two passengers were taken to hospital.
Road markings
Dr. Lucien Jones, Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), said the 302 fatalities recorded up to Tuesday morning are below the 307 during the same period last year.
However, Dr. Jones said the absence of road markings and reflectors "poses a tremendous danger" to road users as it contributes to crashes.
He said the NRSC has been in discussion with the National Works Agency to rectify the issue.
He added that some roads along the north coast are particularly in need of urgent attention.
There were 487 fatalities in Jamaica last year.
