JLP councillor and businessman, Christopher Townsend, charged with fraud

Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor and businessman, Christopher Townsend, is scheduled to appear before the St. Andrew Parish Court on Friday on fraud charges.

Mr. Townsend, who owns a fleet of buses, was charged on Tuesday by members of Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), following allegations that he allowed another bus operator to use a licence plate from one of his buses to operate in breach of the Road Traffic Act.

PSTEB uncovered the fraud when it seized the bus with the false licence plate.

Investigations later led to Mr. Townsend being arrested and charged with fraudulent use of licence plate, among other breaches.

His attorney and namesake, Christopher Townsend, who is his relative, is expected to apply for bail when the matter is mentioned on Friday.
