Consumers should expect a steady reduction in prices for electrical services related to the construction sector following the publication of guidelines by the Fair Trading Commission (FTC).
The government has enforced the recommendations which are aimed at improving competition in for the services of electrical inspectors.
Addressing a recent JIS 'Think Tank', Executive Director of the FTC David Miller said the guidelines will drive consumer awareness of choices, quality of service and prices.
They will also address the significant price hike within the market following the privatisation of service providers and the use of the recently created Government Electrical Regulator (GER).
The GER regulates electrical installation and inspection processes, registers electricians, enrols technical electrical assistants, and licenses electrical inspectors.
It is also mandated to ensure safe electrical installations throughout the country.
The Ministry of Energy will undertake a comprehensive sensitisation and public education programme targeting inspectors, electricians, and consumers.
