Regular policing not affected by SOEs, says Anderson

By Halshane Burke

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson is seeking to assure that the security apparatus will not be compromised with the declaration of the States of Public Emergency.

The SOEs have been declared in Westmoreland, St. James, Hanover, St. Catherine, Clarendon, St. Ann and several police divisions in Kingston and St. Andrew.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Jamaica News, General Anderson said policing activities in the remaining areas of the country will not be curtailed.

"We're going to do policing everywhere. When we do States of Public Emergency, no other form of policing stops. So, we do this in addition to what we were doing anyway," he explained.

"So both in and outside of the state of emergency, the way we operate is to create as little dislocation of normal activities and people as possible, and as much dislocation and disruption of criminals. So that's really where we're targeting," added the commissioner.
