St. Lucia says Digicel did not follow protocol in its price adjustment notice

The Government of St. Lucia says telecommunication company, Digicel, has not followed the correct protocol after postpaid customers said they have been informed of an impending price adjustment.

Senior Minister Stephenson King told reporters that while the company is not adhering to the correct protocol in its price adjustment notice, he is still hopeful of an amicable resolution.

Digicel postpaid customers have reported that the company informed them of a five per cent monthly subscription fee increase as it deals with the effects of substantial jumps in business costs.

The company has said the fees would be applied to bills due from December 29 this year.

King said normally, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority would receive an application for increases from service providers, and would seek justification for the request.

But he noted that Digicel in its notice to customers cited reasons for the increase and said the Commission is considering the proposal.
