Taxi group welcomes reversal of child seat requirement for PPVs

By Halshane Burke

At least one taxi grouping has welcomed the rollback of the requirement to have child seats in public passenger vehicles.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Transport Minister Audley Shaw announced that the child restraint system requirement in the Road Traffic Act and Regulations would be amended.

Egeton Newman, head of Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS), says he is looking forward to continued consultation on the act.

The National Road Safety Council will meet on Thursday to discuss the new regulations.

Mr. Newman said TODSS will be present at the meeting.

He added that a public education campaign on the new Road Traffic Act, which the taxi group had requested, will be in effect for the next three months.
