A seemingly frustrated mother who appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday, gave up the responsibility of being her son's surety.
Her son is before the courts answering to a charge of use of computer for malicious communication. The news team does not have details of the allegations due to the sensitive nature of the matter. It is also not known when the accused was granted bail, however, he was on $350,000 bail with at least two sureties, one of whom was his mother. But as he stood in the dock yesterday, his mother informed the clerk of court and Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque that she no longer wants to bear the responsibility.
"This matter is affecting him and because of that, he has not been able to keep a job. The relationship between both of us is deteriorating and I told him to get help but he is not listening. This is why we are here right now," the woman said.
"I don't think I could take up that on my head, to be responsible for somebody. All your mother say to you is just do little counselling. No man, you need to wake up," the senior judge urged the man. The accused was then informed that he would be taken into custody. To remain on bail, someone else would have to act as his surety.
"You affi go tough it out for the next two nights, you hear? Probably, it's Half-Way Tree lock-up dem carry you and round there rough, but you a go see how nice and comfortable mommy was," judge Cole-Montaque said.
"It's probably nicer than where I was staying because I have been spending some time alone on the streets," the young man told the judge, before his mother interjected that her son was homeless. The judge then allowed her to surrender the bail bonds and the accused was re-offered $350,000 bail with at least two sureties. The accused was escorted from the courtroom in handcuffs and his matter was adjourned until February 10 for mention.
