Transport operators begin collecting CARE grant

Scores of transport operators have been flocking LASCO Financial Services Islandwide to collect the $25,000 grant under the Government's COVID Allocation of Resources for Employees (CARE) Programme.

Last week, Minister of Finance Dr. Nigel Clarke announced that grants totalling approximately $90 million were dispatched for payment to 3,600 transport operators.

Frederick Bryan, General Secretary of the National Council of Taxi Associations (NCOTA), on Tuesday confirmed that operators have been benefiting from the grant.

He said the operators have been "thankful" but not "overly joyful" since the grant will most likely last just about two days.

However, he reiterated that they were "not being ungrateful".

Mr. Bryan has also urged operators who did not already sign up to capitalise on the grant.

The initial cut-off point was April 31, however, Dr. Clarke announced last week that the cut-off date for applications had been changed to August 31.
