Tropical Storm Ian now producing rain in parts of Jamaica

Some parishes have started to experience deteriorating weather conditions, including rain, associated with Tropical Storm Ian.

The Meteorological Service says Jamaica remains under Tropical Watch as Ian moves closer to the island.

At 11 o'clock, Tropical Storm Ian was about 435 kilometres South South East of Kingston.

Maximum sustained winds remain 75 kilometres per hour with higher gusts.

Meteorologist Gayle Murray told Radio Jamaica News that some parishes have started to experience rainfall.

Ian is forecast to significantly strengthen over the next few days.

The storm is expected to become a hurricane by Sunday night and could be at or near major hurricane strength late Monday when it approaches western Cuba.
