Twelve St. James business operators charged for breaching plastic ban

Twelve business operators in St. James have been charged for breaching the plastic ban.

The operators will appear in the St. James Parish Court on Wednesday.

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) says the businesses were observed in possession of commercial quantities of drinking straws attached to juice or drink boxes and single-use plastic bags on varying days last month.

The items are made wholly or in part of polyethylene or polypropylene plastic with dimensions 24x24 inches, with thickness less than 2.5 millimetres.

Director of legal services and enforcement at NEPA, Morjorn Wallock, said the agency remains resolute in its efforts to increase compliance with the ban on single-use plastics and other environmental and planning laws.
