UCASE President to seek legal advice to address fate of security guards

President of UCASE Vincent Morrison says he will be seeking legal advice to address the fate of security guards before the April 1 date for transition to employee status.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News following yesterday's meeting with security guards, Mr Morrison said the power of the court might also be required to address the issue.

He says employers have been writing to the guards advising them that there will be changes to their terms of employment come next month.

Lamenting that the new one-year contracts are worse that the previous arrangement, the union boss says there has been no consultation between security guards and their employers.

Mr Morrison says, having reviewed the contracts, security guards are concerned about their past service and contributions.

The UCASE President says the union has tried unsuccessfully to have dialogue with the Ministry of Labour and relevant employers "so it leaves us with one final option, we may have to head for the court..in an effort to protect the security guards."
